Current Weather Hourly Updates

Due to Malcolm attending to commitments in England, the weather station computer will be switched of from March 11, until April 12, 2010, so there will be no "Current Weather" updates over this period.   We apologise for this inconvenience.

Weather Station Articles

It is on the agenda to add a decription of the weather station with photographs. We hope to incorporate this within the home page which will ideally be restructured to include a "Welcome" section, an "About the Weather Station" section, and an "About Nerja" section. Increasing the content of the home page and adding a menu to select the individual sections will increase search engine traffic.

The Re-designed Website

Nerjaweather.com underwent a major re-design that went live on January 04, 2010. The objective was to make the site more interactive with our increasing number of users (more to be done) and to introduce advertising to help Malcolm (site owner and weather expert) with the ever-increasing operating costs.

We hope to be able to raise sufficient funding to implement an independent standby weather station to take over from the main station during maintenance and when Malcolm is in the UK.

There is a PayPal donation button in the right margin of most pages. If you would like to donate to the Nerja Weather project, simply press the yellow "Donate" button and follow the instructions. Donations are always greatly appreciated - this facility has been added as a result of requests from users.

Server Upgrade

The successful upgrade of our private server took place on the 18th and 19th of February after the old server's limit of 20 simultaneous visitor connections was exceeded on several occasions over the preceding 30 days.

Although this upgrade has increased our operating costs, visitors should find the new server slightly faster, which is always good, and its greater capacity should ensure that our increasing number of daily visitors get easy access for the foreseeable future.

We apologise if any visitors were inconvenienced during the changeover period.

New Registration Option

Visitors now have the option of being able to log into the site. To do this, they are first required to register in a simple once-only process.

Interactive pages that are available for public use, are notoriously prone to spam attacks, so allowing only registered users to access these features is our first line of defence.

Rather than place the log-in/registration form on every page we have decided to only put it on those pages that need it. Initially only the Guest Book has this requirement but it is planned to introduce at least one more interactive facility later.

Average Weather Data Calculations

Malcolm recently (Feb, 2010) recalculated the Rainfall, Temperature and Daily Averages to cover the period 1992 to 2009 (inclusive). This is a period of 18 years so the influence of including an additional year no longer has a noticeable effect.

Accordingly, it has now been decided to only update the averages when there is a sufficiently large change, in any one year, to make a noticeable impression on the longterm average.
